Meet Shoneece - Heart Angel Perth ambassador
Shoneece was a much loved daughter, sister, niece and stepdaughter of a big family from Perth. She had nine siblings who adored her along with her mum Joanie, dad Darryl, stepdad Matt and Aunty Koda. Shortly after she was born in 2005 Shoneece was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukaemia at five weeks of age.
After a decade in remission, doctors confirmed that Shoneece’s heart failure was so severe – a consequence of chemotherapy – she would need a heart transplant to survive. Shoneece was diagnosed with systolic biventricular cardiomyopathy. Biventricular means both sides of Shoneece’s heart were affected from CHD and cardiomyopathy means her heart muscle was damaged, and her heart couldn’t pump blood as normal.
Shoneece had many surgeries and interventions over the years including ECMO, LVAD and a heart transplant at 11-years-old.
Sadly, Shoneece passed away from her heart condition on 2nd December 2021. She was only sixteen years old.
Come and meet Shoneece's family as they walk the Perth walk on October 16th to honour their daughter, sister, niece and stepdaughter together.
