Welcome to Two Feet and a Heartbeat Newcastle 

Note: the Newcastle walk takes in a number of communities in and around Newcastle and this years Two Feet and a Heartbeat walk will be held at a new location on the magnificent Lake Macquarie ; Thomas H Halton Park.  

Two Feet and a Heartbeat is a 4km walk in honour of the 4 lives lost each week to congenital heart disease. However, if you're looking for a longer challenge, you can choose to do an 8km walk in honour of the 8 babies born each day with CHD. The choice is yours. 

The walk will be conducted solely within the grounds of Thomas H Halton Park. Take a look at what the walk looks like from google earth.

There is ample parking within Thomas H Halton Park so look for the HeartKids Banners when parking your car, which will be positioned near the enormous kids play area. 

There will be a COVID-19 safety plan in place with hand sanitiser available and social distancing in practice. Please read the Terms and Conditions for participating and agree to these before finalising your registration. 

This is a dog friendly event so please feel free to bring along your dog ; all we would ask, is that you follow the rules as stipulated by the relevant council that apply to dog owners within the location of this walk and take that extra level of care around your dog when kids are around.

Meet Jeffrey - Heart Angel Newcastle ambassador

Kristie Jensen from Muswellbrook gave birth to her fourth child on 4th June 2013 a little boy, Jeffrey Charles, named after his great grandfather’s. It wasn’t until Kristie took him home from hospital that she started to worry about how much he slept and one evening after a huge sleep she couldn’t wake him for a feed.

That day Kristie took him to Muswellbrook Hospital in tears worried that something was wrong. Due to there being no paediatrician in Muswellbrook they were sent to Maitland where they discovered a heart murmur.

After some tests and X-rays, Jeffrey was sent to The John Hunter Hospital for an echocardiogram as they didn’t have that equipment in Maitland. In Newcastle it was discovered that Jeffrey had critical aortic stenosis and after more machines, medication and sedation Jeffrey was flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

On Monday 15th December the family decided to go ahead with a surgery that had never before been attempted in Australia to try and remove the scarring in the centre of Jeffrey’s heart as that was the cause of his hypertension. While they were performing this surgery they would also replace his heart valves.

Jeffrey never got to have the surgery because that night Kristie’s little boy passed away.
